The rise in bond yields in December took the yield on ten-year gilts to nearly 3.7%, but it will take a yield of well over 4% to make them attractive. The Bank of England’s inflation target remains 2% but it will probably settle for 2.5%-3%. Investors should expect a real return of 1%, plus a margin of safety.
