SALAMATI

Hamed Allahyari with Dani Valent, Murdoch Books, $45

amed Allahyari came to Australia as a refugee from Iran in 2012. He has rebuilt his life in Melbourne, sharing the food of his home country through the restaurant SalamaTea and working with the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre and Free to Feed cooking school. Dani Valent is a respected food writer, cookbook author and restaurant critic and together she and Hamed have produced a splendid collection of Persian recipes. With its beautiful photographs and clear instructions, we defy anyone who picks (Persian for health and cheers) up not to head straight to the kitchen.
