ome like it hot, and I’m one of them! I’m not referring to the famous old film starring Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis, but the weather. In our Living Well section this week hot, pleeeease don’t switch the air con to freezing! I’m always amazed, especially when ramping up the AC these days means higher energy bills, that some restaurants and stores feel like large refrigerators. Once when I was out for dinner at a fancy restaurant, I had goosebumps from the cold air blasting through the AC above me. ‘Would it be possible to turn it down?’ I asked the waiter politely. ‘Oh, that’s okay,’ he replied. ‘We’ve got shawls that diners can borrow.’ It took all my powers of restraint not to ask him whether he was joking. And I was still cold! My mum, Sally, is the same. She has a wardrobe of puffy jackets and fleeces that she pretty much wears all year. I don’t put mine away either! But I getting better. I’ve been hearing a lot about the health benefits of cold water, which we’ll cover in a future Living Well, and I’m now giving myself a 30-second blast of cold water at the end of every shower. And you know what? I’m actually growing to like it! Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?
