Rainbow Commotion

When I planned and planted my gardens 13 years ago, I deliberately bought a great deal of plants with ‘bird attracting’ on the labels. I envisaged a garden full of colourful parrots and lorikeets. Although the gardens do attract a great abundance of birdlife, it is rare to see any parrots or lorikeets. Last year however I was delighted when a flock of Rainbow Lorikeets decided to drop in and devour the seeds of a couple of mature Queen Palm trees we have near the house.

The lorikeets only stayed for a few days, but that was long enough for me to capture some good reference photographs. I was able to get a feel for their personality and an inspiration for a wild painting depicting the flurry of activity that surrounded their feeding. I
