Acting saved him. Of this, Mojean Aria is certain. The Sydney-born son of Iranian immigrants realised at an early age that he wasn’t like his peers – not in name, culture, nor mindset – but if he escaped to the cinema or trod the boards, he could channel his wayward energy into something magical. “I saw a lot of trauma and when I would express that trauma at school, it was frowned upon,” the star says. “But when I at 9 or 10 years old, I would be getting applause. All of a sudden, people were not just allowing me to be myself, but encouraging me to do it.”
