Lead shot ultimately causes less harm than steel

With respect to the proposed transition to steel (soft iron) shot from lead, I reiterate this point: the manufacturing process for steel shot is more energy-intensive than making lead shot.

Everybody is talking about reducing carbon emissions to alleviate climate change, and here we are moving to a product with an even carbon bigger footprint. The associated natural disasters will undoubtedly kill far more people than the almost non-existent risk of anyone becoming ill or dying from lead poisoning.
