Tell us how Krispy Audio started…
It's a long story, but it all started in 2006 out of necessity for an interconnect between my iPod and the DIY portable amplifier I had just built. I could only find either a $3 one that looked like it would last a week, or a $300 solid silver one, and I thought there had to be something better — a middle ground. I already knew how to solder well, so I researched the pinouts for Apple's 30-pin dock connector and made my own. I had some spare connectors so thought I'd make another one and she if it sells on eBay. It cost me $15 plus my time… and sold for $49 within a day. That's when I knew there was something there. That was a product that I couldn't find and I knew there would have to be other people like me. I had a business model! I needed an eBay store name at the time so on-the-fly decided on Krispy Kables as I liked the alliteration. It evolved into making all kinds of audio cables exclusively for a few years, before making the natural progression into hi-fi components. I still build cables, though — not only for customers but also OEM.
Through all of my ‘initiation’ to retail hi-fi, I had a couple of epiphanies: I discovered what great audio reproduction could sound like, and that there was a market (albeit small) for higher-end products
