In 2017, having recently moved to Northampton, Paul Leadley had just about completed the restoration of his Ducati 748. Although it’s one of the most beautiful sports bikes ever produced Paul had to concede that at his age and with only one leg, the Ducati wasn’t the most practical way to get about on two wheels! As Paul explained: “Back in the 1980s I was a competitive cyclist. Over time my coach noticed that my performance was dropping. I’d not decreased my training, so I went for a medical check-up and this identified that I had a complex type of leukaemia. Over the following years I had several medical interventions but in 2012, due to issues connected to my condition, I had to have my left leg amputated.”
