I grew up being expected to ride, but this wasn’t for me and I retired aged 10 having been told off at a Pony Club event. “You on the skewbald, will you tighten your reins!” After I’d successfully identified an oak leaf, a beech leaf (learning which plants were and weren’t toxic to horses), and opened and closed a gate, this terrifying lady ensured that I gave it all up!
