Years ago, many car museums were started by antique vehicle owners seeking a way to make their hobby a larger part of their lives. They usually had a deep love of cars and thought that operating a museum would help them better maintain their collections. A few of these places survived through the years, but many of today’s museums are large facilities with professional staffs, business-like budgets and innovative ideas. Darrel Burnett, of The Automobile Gallery in Green Bay, Wis., gave us his slant on today’s car-museum industry.
OLD CARS: How does The Automobile Gallery fit into the car museum “industry?”
From our inception — January 1, 2016 — The Automobile Gallery & Event Center has been dedicated to presenting “The Automobile as the Art.” That philosophy alone separates us from other automotive museums around the world. We focus exclusively on vehicles, without having gas pumps, automobilia, equipment or art on display. This puts a premium on securing the finest and most exclusive vehicles available to keep our collection distinctive.
