STOP unauthorised payments

The Government recently announced plans to stop companies tricking you into automatic contract renewal when you sign up for free trials and special offers. It wants services to provide clearer information about subscriptions upfront, send reminders before a contract auto-renews and let customers cancel more easily. Citizens Advice has gone further by calling for a complete ban on ‘subscription traps’, so you must opt into paid-for services following a free trial rather than be charged automatically (see www.snipca.com/44325).

The measures will be put before Parliament in early 2023, but until the law changes, follow our advice to avoid and cancel unfair and unauthorised payments.
