Go -ahead for Cumbrian coal mine gives fresh hopes to heritage sector

THE HeritageRailwayAssociationhas said it is“cautiously optimistic’following the Government’s controversial decision to give the green light for a new deep coal mine in Cumbria.

Approval for the first deep mine in the UK for more than 30 years at Woodhouse Colliery was given on December 7 by Communities Secretary Michael Gove, who said he was satisfied that there is currently a UK and European market for the coal, and that it is highly likely that a global demand
