For some reason, I can’t fathom why we have got behind with all our jobs now we are at the backend of the year.
What drought?
We have only just started taking the wurzels up, we usually make a start in late October to avoid precisely what the conditions are like now. It seems we are paying for the long drought back in the summer when we went weeks with no rain and the temperatures regularly in the thirties. The rain must have been stored up somewhere and now somebody has pressed a button and we are getting the lot. We and the Dexta are both slipping and sliding about. This silt land is great for growing crops, but any amount of rain at this time of year turns it into what I describe as gloopy porridge. The locals hereabouts have a more descriptive but Anglo-Saxon description, they say it turns to “cat ****”. Oh, to go back to the days when you could fairly accurately predict the weather which came with each season.
