The P Range Vespa 125 was a revelation on being introduced by Piaggio in 1977, and not only did it have good performance and road handling but it also boasted reliability and smoothness. In the UK, its capacity meant it was learner legal and, by the mid-1980s, dominated the booming scooter scene. For Piaggio, it was a proven seller and didn’t need replacing, but what if a sports version of it were to be produced that gave the customer even more choice? Piaggio hadn’t produced any type of sports scooter for more than two decades since the demise of the SS90, so it was long overdue.
