Botheration Pond Loop

Total distance: 7.2 mi (11.5 km)

Elevation change: Minimal

Difficulty: Ski, intermediate; snowshoe, novice

Map: TI 744: O21

GPS coordinates: 43.709386, -74.119033 (trailhead)

This loop offers a variety of interesting, but not too challenging, terrain as it passes two ponds and a large marsh with views of Gore Mt. The source of the unusual name apparently remains a mystery. The loop can also be combined with a point-to-point trip that finishes in North Creek via the Raymond Brook Ski Trail.

The best direction to ski this loop is clockwise. However, if there is any doubt about the safety of the river crossing, a counterclockwise direction would be indicated. If already headed counterclockwise and the crossing turns out to be too dangerous, it is best to turn back and find another trip in the area. Also, Botheration Pond is at about the halfway point
