DESPITE having to keep one eye on the ever-developing bird-flu situation, we managed to hold the North of England Gloster Club show last month.

We had already notified APHA before the Avian Influenza Prevention Zone was declared across Great Britain. Naturally, we had to see how it affected our plans for a show. The guide that appeared in the October 26 issue of Cage & Aviary Birds was a great help and, as we weren't in a control zone, and we received no counter-instructions from APHA, the show was able to proceed on our usual Remembrance Sunday date.

Of course not all shows were so lucky. In fact we benefited in some ways, since other cancellations lead to an increased entry for the NofEGC show, with a total entry of 541 consisting of 377 Gloster canaries, 95 old and
