Being flexible can be a real plus in the collector car world, something Les Gruszecki learned when he paid his friend’s share of a hotel room while at a Trans Am meet.

“I said, ‘Don’t worry about it,’” Gruszecki recalled. “‘When you get the money, pay me back. I’m not concerned.’ Several months later, he came to me. ‘I’ve got an engine block, a short block. Would you take that in trade for the room?’ I said, ‘Sure, why not?’

“He showed up a couple of days later with his truck and there’s the engine block and some spare parts, so that’s how I acquired it.”
