SMOKED SALMON

Whether serving it up as a Christmas starter, presenting it on blinis for a wonderful canapé or simply spoiling yourself with a salmon-topped breakfast, here are two elegant choices you will adore.

The Best Triple Smoked Salmon, 200g, £4, Morrisons

This Scottish salmon is cured with sea salt and demerara sugar before being smoked three times over oak and cask chippings, which imparts a subtle smoky flavour and gives the salmon its alluring colour. This proved to be a winning combination. The judges also liked the texture, which was pleasantly firm. A great classic salmon.

Specially Selected Orange and Prosecco Smoked Salmon, 100g, £3.49, Aldi

If you’d like something with an extra-boozy, zesty zing, this is the smoked salmon for you. The salmon is initially smoked over beech and oak chips to achieve a delicate taste before being infused with Prosecco and finished with a flourish of orange zest. It’s a delicate balance of sweet, bitter and citrus, the smoked salmon equivalent of an Aperol spritz.
