ave you ever noticed that indie games often feel more influential than big budget releases fromwill earn plenty of money, but, made on a tiny fraction of the budget by one guy, has popularised a whole new genre, already teeming with enthusiastic copycats. I’m put in mind of battle royale games, originally user-made mods and now one of the most important genres in the industry. Or , originally another one-man band, but now the game with perhaps the most widespread mainstream awareness in the industry, without the need for a billion dollar marketing campaign. Does the freedom and flexibility of smaller teams and budgets breed greater innovation? Or is it just that the sequel grind has diminished the creativity of big studios?
