Sightings of cats in the heartlands are largely tolerated but not many know that felines are illegal in HDB housing as they are challenging to keep within the premises.
HDB said on its website, “They are generally difficult to contain within the flat. When allowed to roam indiscriminately, they tend to shed fur and defecate or urinate in public areas, and also make caterwauling sounds, which can inconvenience your neighbours.”
Mr Ng has raised this issue repeatedly in Parliament over the years, and even questioned the point of having a ban on felines if it is not actively enforced. He also intends to continue pushing for the legalisation of cats in HDB flats. unless they cause disamenities to the community.
