The Marvelous MUTT

The M151 series of vehicles were designed, and initially manufactured by, Ford – who referred to the vehicles as a MUTT (Military Utility Tactical Truck), but over 75,000 of these vehicles were produced by AM General in South Bend, Indiana. It is those vehicles which are the focus of this article – and by the way, there is no point writing or calling and saying “I was in the army for 150 years, and no one EVER called these things a MUTT, they are jeeps, so get your act together, you don’t know what you are talking about.” We all may watch movies with John Wayne or Charlie Sheen in them, but their birth certificates say Marion Robert Morrison or Carlos Irwin Estévez, respectively, and so it is with the MUTT.
