The US mid-term elections, and how they affect South Africa

Traditionally, the US midterm elections are regarded as a referendum on the performance of a US president in the first two years of a four-year term.

The 2022 mid-term elections were held under unprecedented conditions, with the Republican Party expected to win by a landslide and take control of the Senate and the House of Representatives. But the results surprised everybody, with the Democrats winning the majority in the Senate and only just losing the House.
