TICKING OFF YOUR TEST

WORDS>MAX SILVESTER PICS>CHAPPO

Everyone remembers their first bike and their first time riding on the road, cracking the throttle open as the sun shines down. For me, it was on a TZR 50 handed down from my brother. I’d just done my CBT and was absolutely loving life, ringing round the countryside without any other thoughts. It's all I wanted to do… in fact, I was so against getting a car licence that I renewed my CBT two years later, carrying on to keep riding through wet, windy and overall-not-great conditions before I gave in to the four-wheeled world.

Eventually, it seems to get us all… and that’s when many people hit the crossroads of what happens next. Do you leave biking in the past? Or step up and tackle your lull licence? It would seem that in the last few years, fuelled along by Covid-19 and all its constraints, there’s been a bit of a resurgence to motorcycling in the UK, with a wave of fresh folk opting to get on two wheels which is nothing short of fantastic. It is probably the very reason that I myself decided the time was right to get back on the road, which essentially meant taking my licence. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for many years, but in more recent times my racing has taken priority, so it’s been one of those things on the backburner.

The funny thing is, I’m not alone. I reckon most racers neglect to get a road licence because they are so consumed by the track. As understandable as that is, I personally felt like I was missing out and decided that this was the year I’d tackle my A2 licence… with a fair bit of help from the Honda School of Motoring, which pointed me to one of its approved dealers

JM: Is the carbon black in a MotoGP tyre reeeeeally the same as it is the GP2? PT: Yes, it is. We use it to make the tyre material denser, so when you mix all the materials together, you can get more in, or make the rubber thinner of the same content

Naughty BUT NICE
Ten years ago, I found myself a part of the maddest, baddest, and arguably most illegal motorcycling I've ever put my name to. The gig was called the Dark Dog Moto Tour, crossing from the north to the south of France over seven days, littered with ro
