hen I was a boy I served or sang in the choirs of three different London churches simultaneously. I loved being in the choir because I got paid. We got a shilling for the regular services, half a crown for weddings and five shillings for funerals! I think we got more for funerals because there was always an anthem and maybe a requiem mass, so more rehearsal time was required. I don’t think I – that’s how I get myself to sleep every night.
