MY LORRY – 60 YEARS AGO!

I recognised the 1932 Bedford WLG YY6756 which appeared in your August 2022 issue, as I owned many years ago. As a chassis “running unit”, it was purchased by coachbuilders Vincents of Reading, who built it into a horse box with a side ramp and rear groom cubicle and a top hat cab. YY6756 was purchased by Lord and Lady Boothby of Fonmon Castle in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales. An identical one was purchased by the Guthrey family of Gloucester and I believe this one is still around and complete as original.

Anyway, I purchased YY6756 in 1963 from a croft in Llandow, Vale of Glamorgan. It was in a sorry state, and I paid the princely sum of £5.00. The horsebox body was unrepairable by myself, as I was at the time a 20 year old fitter
