OXFORD DIECAST
In 1/76 scale is Oxford Diecast’s long-roof Aveling & Porter road roller in the dark green and black livery of H Douthwaite & Son of Hutton Grange, Skelton, Penrith [7]. Built in Rochester, Kent in 1926, this E class 6nhp single-cylinder roller is registered RM 2588 and named Cumbria Lady. These classic Aveling steam rollers saw use across the world. There is Oxford’s usual high level of detail at this scale, including the Aveling horse logo on the front. RRP is £20.95.
In the same scale is the, registered FG 4713, in the livery of the Horsham Traction Company, dating from 1901 . If you attended the 2022 HCVS London to Brighton run you may have seen the real thing bringing up the rear of the heavy haulage convoy of three engines plus a transformer on a low-loader (see the July 2022 issue of Old Glory for photos). The current lettering on the side of the roof is Wilkinson Machinery Merchant, Leith, though it is owned by Horsham Traction Company, the name of the steam engine part of the Les Searle Plant Group, who have operated from the same family home and premises off Parsonage Road, Horsham, West Sussex since 1913. The model sells for £20.95.
