STITCHES RAISING A SMILE
Nearly 50 years ago, I had a massive stroke, which affected my left arm and leg. Last year, I was diagnosed with dystonia, which has badly affected my already weakened leg to the extent that I am now in a wheelchair. A very good friend of mine introduced me to tapestry when I was 16, thinking it was something I could do to keep me occupied while I was away at college. A couple of years later, she showed me counted cross stitch, and I was absolutely hooked. This project by Ursula Michael made me smile. All those bright colours made it an absolute joy to stitch, and it was finished in a couple of months. I really had no idea what to do with it. Then I wondered, could I possibly raise some money for the MS group that I attend? I placed it up for auction on our town’s community notice board, and raised £50, which the group were delighted with. Here’s me and my friend Joyce with the cross stitch.
