A Devoted Citizen has the Spirit of Ubuntu

The word Ubuntu comes from the Nguni languages, and can be described as “humanity towards others.” It is an African concept that embodies all the virtues that my book, Devoted Citizen, advocates for. These virtues include maintaining harmony and the spirit of sharing among members of a society.

What is Ubuntu?

In the early 90’s, the was emphasised and adopted as an ideology by the post-apartheid government in South Africa, as a vehicle to accelerate harmony, social cohesion, and co-operation among its many racial and ethnic groups. The ethical values of include: respect for others, helpfulness, communality, sharing, caring, trust, and unselfishness. underscores the importance of agreement or consensus, and gives priority to the well-being of the community as a whole.
