L a Vuelta a España is one of cycling’s most prestigious grand tours and is held in Spain, as the name would suggest. In the cycling world it is thought of as being on a par with the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia (but obviously pales into insignificance when compared with Tour t’ Yorkshire which first took place in 2015 after the success of the Tour de France when it visited the region for the first two stages of the 2014 event. It’s now an annual event and professional riders from all over the world compete to win the honour of wearing the coveted ‘Nora Batty itchy Aran wool, hearing aid beige, cable knit cardy’ for the stage wins).

La Vuelta’s inception was way back in 1935, but unfortunately for organisers and participants alike, proceedings were interrupted a couple of times when Franco and Hitler, jointly and respectively,
