HER medical history is nothing short of jaw-dropping. In the past 28 years, she’s had 112 operations to keep her body whole and functioning, and she’s by no means done yet. Hospitals, doctors, nurses and operating tables have been Mari Jansen van Vuuren’s life ever since a catastrophic crash robbed her of the future she thought she’d have – one where she’d finish school, study further, get a job and have a child.
However, because of her horrific injuries, none of this has been possible. Her days now revolve around pain management and ongoing medical issues – but the 38-year-old from Ermelo has managed to find happiness and meaning in life despite all its challenges.
