In 1966 it wasn’t such a big deal to own a used four-year-old Chevy. All it took was $2,500 cash and my dad to co-sign for this 18-year-old kid to drive his dream car... that, a 3.5 grade-point average, and a promise to my folks to head to college after high school. In 1968, I signed up for my four-year stint in the U.S. Navy and made two Vietnam combat tours for Uncle Sam. After that, it was back to building new GM products like Camaros and Firebirds, getting married, having kids and grandkids, and becoming a productive “young-to-old” (-er) citizen, until my retirement from GM some 36-plus years later, in 2004. Wow... what a ride!
