I thought that having read the “Charging for Children” (October, p10/11), that you might be interested to see our nine-year-old beagle, Kiki, sat at the wheel of our motorhome while we were on Skye in August.
On our return to the 'van, if she had to be left behind, she was always to be seen sitting at the driver's seat. While travelling, we have her anchored with a seatbelt down low where she cannot see out of the windows, but is quite happy in her bed between the two front seats.
As an after comment, we would not have been prevented taking her with us if the site on Skye in Broadford had charged. It's a well-laid-out site with the majority of the pitches dedicated to motorhomes and only a few for caravans, plus a tenting area. Although quite wet at times, Kiki enjoyed the walks despite the rain, and the scenery is fantastic (when you can see it!)

I have been reading the correspondence in MMM regarding charges for children and for dogs.
Whilst we have no children, I can understand the concerns some people may have that they are being charged for children, whilst on some sites dogs are permitted with no charge. I can also understand that some people would prefer dog-free sites.
We started caravanning many years ago as, at that time, it was the only way we could have a holiday and take our dogs with us. We now motorhome and our dogs still come with us.
The way I see it is that there are well-behaved children who use the services provided as they are meant to be, and there are those who become almost feral and if anything is said to the supposedly responsible adult then very often the only reply is normally aggressive and abusive. Sadly, the same can be said of dog owners, the vast majority of whom are responsible and follow the site rules; however, again there are those that believe that little Scruff, Rover or Fido do not need to be on a lead because they are so well behaved at home.
So, regarding fees for kids and dogs, I believe they should both be set at a sensible level to reflect the facilities available,
