CANARIES
AS CANARY fanciers move out of the breeding season and through the moult, they may start thinking about the upcoming show season. In the UK this generally starts with the National Exhibition at Stafford at the beginning of October, where bird fanciers come together to celebrate many species from canaries, budgerigars and British birds to many types of parrots, finches and more. There are many other shows, too, from local CBS events to regional species-specific shows and even national specialist shows too, such as the show of the British Border Fancy Canary Club. And at the heart of all of these shows is the judge and of course, without a judge, we'd have no shows.
I first started to judge Border canaries in 2018. I'd recently been asked to take on the responsibilities of club secretary for the Border Canary Association and it was in this role where the difficulties of securing a judge for the show
