Let’s start with an easy inspiration — flowers and leaves. These are so variable and inspire great shapes for our quilting. They are often more suited to feminine quilts or quilts where the fabrics are inspired by nature. Odd numbers of petals, stems or leaves are best used in designs — the look is more natural.

The choice of flower shapes is also important. A harmonious result is achieved by matching the style of flower to the fabrics and patchwork. For example, gum leaves on a Liberty fabric quilt inspired by the English countryside
