UNSUNG HEROES The legendary LAND GIRLS

Running past the row of custard apple trees that lined our house, I made my way to the chicken coop.

Growing up on a farm in Cleveland, Qld, with my parents, Beryl and Doug, it was my job to collect the eggs before school.

But there was also plenty more to keep me and my siblings – Allan, Neil and Melinda – occupied.

Along with horses, cows and hundreds of chickens, we had lots of fruit and vegie crops, including strawberries, green beans, cabbages, potatoes and watermelon!
