Hazelnut-Date Scones

Makes 12

These plump scones, laden with roasted hazelnuts and the sweet taste of dried dates, are supremely delicious when paired with a soothing tea blend.

3 cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup firmly packed light brown sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon fine sea salt
½ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
½ cup chopped dried dates
¼ cup roughly chopped roasted hazelnuts
1 cup plus 1 tablespoon cold heavy whipping cream, divided

• Preheat oven to 375°. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.

• In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Using a pastry blender or 2 forks, cut in butter until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in dates and hazelnuts.

• Add 1 cup cream to flour mixture, stirring with a fork just until a dough begins to form. Working gently, bring mixture together with hands until a dough forms. (If mixture seems dry and dough won’t come together, add more cream, 1 tablespoon at a time. Dough should be very firm.)

• Turn out dough
