A Taste of Chile

When you think of typical Chilean foods, do you imagine a lot of spicy chilies, tortillas, tacos, and a big bowl of delicious chili? After all, chili must be from Chile, right?

Chile is well known for its pink salmon and seafood and delicious fruits such as raspberries, blueberries, apples, and grapes. This long, thin country has a variety of foods, none of which involve tortillas, tacos, or chili.

Grab a big plate—you’re going to need it.

Typical Foods

Chileans are the second highest, , and are the go-to breads. The country has (bakeries) in every neighborhood. Twice a day they offer batches of freshly baked bread. Bread in this country dates to the late 19th and early 20th century with the arrival of European immigrants to the port of Valparaíso. The story is that two brothers from France made the first in the country. The bread takes its name from the last name of the brothers.
