Hamburg, Germany is poorly prepared to deal with the increasing numbers of homeless people who are elderly and in poor health, and it’s a growing problem. But there’s hope on the horizon thanks to the new ‘Place to Live’ policy, which is currently being rolled out in Hamburg’s Bergedorf district. The policy aims to provide beneficiaries with a room of their own and access to additional support with healthcare and social care.
MEET STELLA
Stella sits in the basement of St Pauli’s CaFée mit Herz (Café with a Heart), a drop-in and day care centre for the homeless and those in need, and says she had to think about whether she would tell me her stories. In her 61 years, she has gathered quite a few – many of
