HERE’S A MOMENT, AS THE RAIN thrums rhythmically on the Jurassic-like palms outside my window, when I imagine I’ve been transported to the jungles of Southeast Asia. The downpour after the day’s heat releases a bottleable smell of the rainforest – herbal and peaty, lifted with unexpected floral notes. A chorus of insects spark up a tune, their conductor an owl who occasionally chimes in with a hoot as if to keep pace. To be reminded that nature always rules is just the tonic I need.
