ANIMAL HEALTH Goats and sheep: dealing with worms and poisonous plants

Small stock are highly susceptible to certain species of poisonous plants and roundworm, and farmers therefore need to work hard at controlling these threats.

The following plants are toxic to small stock:

Geigeria, a genus of African flowering plants in the daisy family. It can cause vermeersiekte (vomiting disease).

• Chincherinchee (Ornithogalum thyrsoides), a bulbous plant species endemic to the Western Cape.
