A FEW years ago, these pages carried my story about an unusual springbuck hunt. Although the proceedings were conducted in the usual way the unusual aspect of the event was that the shooters were all completely blind – AND they all bagged a buck. Now, about five years later, I was again invited to attend a ‘blind’ hunt, this time unusual in that the visiting party consisted of five married couples, all blind. And all, for the first time in their lives, volunteered with unhesitant enthusiasm to experience firing a modern hunting rifle.
The weekend outing had been organised by Ken Whiley of Gamka Safaris and East Cape professional hunter, Neil Pretorius. The visitors came from a wonderful Cape institute called Innovation for the Blind located in Worcester. The venue Ken Whiley chose for the event was Olive Grove Guest Farm just south of the Karoo town of Beaufort West. And that’s where the first surprise awaited us. You see,
