What are your first recollections of kiting?
As kids, we always admired kitesurfing. We felt the adrenaline when watching kiters fly high. Extreme sports have always attracted us. When we stopped our acrobatic careers we did a power kite course together. This was the first time we felt what a kite could really do. In the first lesson Gretha was already bouncing and skipping across the grassy playfield (this has never changed!). Our first real kite sessions gave us both the feeling of absolute freedom. Feeling adrenaline in combination with being one with nature felt like a dream. It felt like we belonged.
And where did you have your first sessions?
Five years ago Elsien had been doing a masters in Neuropsychology during which time we trained acrobatics every day. Life was hectic at that time. After quitting the acrobatic career and finishing her degree Elsien wanted to take a break and emigrated to Aruba. She lived there for two years and learned to kitesurf. Gretha was studying
