IF THERE is one show that captures that strange hinterland between the permissive Sixties and the decadent Seventies it has to be The Persuaders!, which only lasted one series but is still fondly remembered for its extravagant fashions, fast cars, high-end locations, A-list stars and one of the most memorable theme tunes ever written.

It was certainly the most ambitious adventure show to emerge from Sir Lew Grade’s television company, ITC - also responsible for the likes of The Saint, Department S, The Champions and Man In A Suitcase - not least in persuading a genuine Hollywood star, Tony Curtis, to join the cast.
