Evil Dead: The Game

The question of how to adapt horror movies into videogames has, it seems, been settled.

Asymmetrical multiplayer, in which a band of survivors try to complete tasks before a lone killer catches up with them, has been the dominant format since Dead By Daylight’s launch in 2016. And it’s proved remarkably flexible. Even putting aside the attempts at standalone adaptations in a similar mould, all manner of horror film series have been assimilated into that original game, with DLC pack releases adding Pinhead, Ghost Face, Leatherface, Pyramid Head and Ash Williams.

That last name stands out rather, doesn’t it? Unlike most other horror series, Evil Dead has been defined not by its villain, but by its hero.
