Deadlock disaster

Alarm bells should have started ringing when the kids asked if I could turn the music up because the speakers in the back weren’t working.

On the Zafira B athick bundle of wires emerges from the bottom of the door pillar and goes into a connector in the rear door. The wires provide power and control signals for the central locking, the deadlock, the electric window and, of course, the speaker.

Over time, opening and closing the door fatigues the wires and they break – disabling the door lock, the electric window and the speaker. It’s not a design fault, according to Vauxhall, although there is an official GM repair
