You ask what we are hoping to find out from the 1921 Census. For years we have been trying to find out about my wife’s mysterious grandfather with only a name and an occupation (from the birth certificates of two children) to go on. We had hoped that the marriage certificate would be helpful but have never been able to find one – so we had come to the conclusion that our best remaining hope was the 1921 Census, which was taken between the births of their two children, so would hopefully show the family together.
However, DNA has come into play and we are now sure that the reason we could not find the marriage certificate was that there was no marriage as he was already married to someone else and had a family and his name was slightly different.
