Rear brake discs worn
This 2017 Ford Transit 2.0 TDCi had had a hard life and like many working vehicles was not treated with the most respect. Even though it had only covered just over 50,000 miles, it had more wear and tear than I have seen on much older vehicles.
With an advisory on the brakes at the MOT, the owner did at least make an effort at this stage to ensure that future problems were kept to a minimum and asked me to check the brakes all-round whilst it was in, saving him having to have a repeat visit a few months down the line.
New front brake pads were fitted, and when checking the rears, I found that brake discs were in a poor state. These are not too bad to renew as the disc comes off complete by removing the rear halfshaft and then removing the hub nut.
The reluctor ring for the ABS pick-up then needs to be tapped off to gain access to the disc fixing bolts, but as things go, this is quite an easy job – and the 1.9 hours book time is quite generous.
