How a DNA match came up trumps

My research started when my father-inlaw, John, asked whether I could confirm where his father and grandfather were born. John was born near Pettigo, on the border in Ireland. He had been told that his father, Arthur, was born in Paisley, but brought up in Ireland and that his grandfather, Dan, had been born in Ireland.
