Welcome to the tenth part of my watercolour course for beginners. This month we’re going to focus on one of my favourite subjects to paint, boats and reflections. There is something evocative about a scene with boats that we all like. It might be fishing boats hauled up on a beach at low tide, or perhaps a lake at sunset with the reflections of masts spiralling down into the gently rippling water. One thing is certain though, boats are incredibly difficult to draw, let alone paint. I want to show you some tips that should help to make the task more manageable. This article will focus on the rather awkward shape of the hull of boats and the treatment of watercolour paint.
