IT’S our largest indigenous tree and it yields some of South Africa’s most valuable timber. Many of the wooden floors in the Cape Dutch homes of old, for example, are made of yellowwood. It’s little wonder the real yellowwood (Podocarpus latifolius) is South Africa’s national tree.
